The European Union Directive on Environmental Noise has set up a series of stringent requirements for strategic noise mapping and the resultant action plans. The density of population in the UK means that the Environmental Noise Directive (END) is likely to have a greater impact in Great Britain than in any other EU member country. This will have a significant effect both in terms of carrying out the requisite noise maps, and in terms of drawing up and implementing the action plans which result.
