The European Union and Noise
The European Commission has developed a new four-fold framework
for noise policy:
1. The creation of a Noise Expert Network
In 1998, the European Commission created an EU Noise Expert
Network, with the mission of providing assistance in the
development of European noise policy.
2. The approval and
publication of the Directive on Environmental Noise
This requires:
o The monitoring of the environmental problem
by each member state drawing up “strategic noise
maps”
o Informing and consulting the public about noise exposure
o Addressing local noise issues
o Developing a long-term EU strategy for noise reduction
3. The Directive on Equipment Used Outdoors
Follow the link below for all useful information on implementing
this directive: http://europa.eu.int/comm/enterprise/mechan_equipment/noise/index.htm
4.
The further development of existing EU legislation relating
to sources on noise
This related to road traffic noise, aircraft noise, railway
noise, and various other miscellaneous sources of noise
generation, such as household appliances and recreational
craft.
